"The Other"
I remember years ago in one of my college classes, I wrote a paper about "The Other". I think it was in one of my religious studies class at Seattle University. I have always been concerned with the way humans treat each other, whether talking about racism or inter-human relationships. More than likely, the thought would have been about the racisms that persist in the world, seemingly never to go away! The bottom line of the paper was to convey to the reader that as long as we see individuals as "The Other" we separate them from "myself", I can feel free to conclude my summation of that individual in any category I would place them (negatively or positively). I then don't have to be responsible for the humanity of that individual in comparison to my own humanity. In reality "The Other" is YOU too!
